Counting technique :) - December 18th 2010, 03:46 PM

My mental health nurse taught me this so I thought I'd post it here as it may help other people. It somewhat helps me

When you're feeling anxious think to yourself 5 five things you see (like now I see my laptop, my phone, my wii, a pencil and ipod speakers), five things you can hear (my sister talking, music, me chewing chewing gum, my dog barking and my dad walking down the stairs) then five things you can feel (me scratching my nose, my nose being blocked, chewing chewing gum, my hand on my laptop and my foot on the floor), then count four things you see, hear and feel, then three, then two, then one Try and do it slowly. It doesn't matter if you repeat things either.

Hope this helps guys <3

Thanks! I usually do counting type things but have trouble grounding myself. Hopefully this will work for me!

Thanks Ceilidh.

My anxiety hasn't been as bad as it once was, but I'll try this when I need it.

To you, everything's funny. - -
I'd give all I have, honey. - If you could stay like that.
Stay this little. - - I won't let nobody hurt you.
Just try to never grow up. - - Never grow up.
