I have really really bad anxiety. I am on meds, but it doesn't seen to be helping. Does anyone have any tricks or tips that help keep anxiety under control.

I used to picture mine and visualise scrunching it up and throwing it away. I know it sounds silly. but for me it worked. I used to mentally tell myself that I was not going to get beaten by this silly little thing. My mum even made me a stuffed thing cause I drew what it looked like, so then I used to squeeze it and beat it up
![]() If it's somewhere public, take a few deep, deep breaths, think about the worst thing that could possibly happen in that situation, and then think about how likely it is. Try and find a safe place too, like somewhere you went as a child, and keep it stored away in your head so if needs be, you can close your eyes for a moment, think of that place and grab that safe feeling and take it with you. [Sometimes an object can help - keep it in your pocket, like a pebble or a bead from that place] Remember, you always have a choice - if you're going somewhere you don't want, tell yourself "I'm here voluntarily, I can leave if I need to, no-one is going to stop me" because they wont. No-one is going to force you. I know how difficult it can be trying to cope with anxiety, just PM me if you need any help, cause I'm almost over it but I regret what it ruined, so I don't want it to do the same to anyone else ![]() For me, I thought of how frustrating it was not being able to go to the things I wanted, like parties or holidays, and I used that frustration to say "NO! I want to have a good time and you CANNOT stop me!" Good luck, ask me if you need anything else. I'm a pro with eating anxiety

Something that helps me is thinking about what chemicals and whatnot are being produced in my brain at that very moment that are making me feel anxious. If I can boil it down to a set of simple processes, it seems to become smaller. (This may require a bit of research on your part first--I find it doesn't work as well if I only have a vague idea of what's going on.)
"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it." |
