Unhappy Anxiety and Biting - July 30th 2011, 10:05 AM

My name is Toni and I'm 21(hope that is okay, I know I'm not a teen) but, I have been dealing with extreme anxiety since March. I have recently started biting myself which I am aware is self harm. Could this behavior be linked to my anxiety and if so, how can I stop the biting.

A little back story about my anxiety,

I lost my father in December of last year. The anxiety started three months after he died which was in March. I haven't been able to see a doctor because I can't afford to right now. I hope you can at least point me to the right path to beating this.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

As for the self harm, try this list of alternatives: http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f12-s...ves-self-harm/
Hope it helps.

The self-harm could be linked to the anxiety relating to your father, or it could be linked to something else entirely. Based on the information you gave us, I can't really venture a guess. Definitely consider seeing a psychological professional, though. You don't need to pay $100 per session - there ARE cheaper, and even FREE ways to obtain psychological services. Here's a link to an article I wrote last year with some ideas on where you can look for help. =)
