Dealing with nausea from anxiety? - September 7th 2011, 05:36 AM

Alright, so, I haven't ever really thought that my anxiety was all that bad, compared to what I've heard from people on sites like this anyway. I mean, my heart doesn't race, and I don't have panic attacks (99% of the time anyway), and I don't get short of breath, so I've never really felt I had any problems with anxiety beyond just feeling nervous sometimes. But now....its starting to get a little irritating, and its starting to interfere with other parts of my life.

What happens is I'll have something planned, like a doctor's appointment, or going to the movies, or some other situation involving me being obligated to stay there and do whatever, and I'll start feeling sick to my stomach and want to get out of it. Most times, its not that big of a deal, and I'll get over it quickly. But more and more often, it gets pretty bad, and I'll give up and try to get out of whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing.

I can't really take going to the movies anymore. I'll sit there waiting for the movie to play, and I'll be feeling sick all the while. Or I'll be driving to a doctor's appointment, and I'll feel miserable the whole drive and while waiting to see the doctor. I'll feel so claustrophobic and anxious, and sometimes it can get overwhelming.

For the most part I deal with it, but when I can't, it really interferes with my life, and I'm worried about it getting worse.

Anybody got any advice for something like this?

I have dealt with nausea from anxiety many times. It has gotten to the point when I have actually started throwing up and all. It did start as a nausous feeling however, and it can get worse from here. Feeling nausous is a common symptom of anxiety, even if your heart doesn't race. I didn't experience those symptoms until a long time after I was already fighting nausea. My point is, you already see it is getting worse, and these other symptoms may or may not come later as well. Everyone's body reacts differently to stress and anxiety.

Different things also calm people down, but it's much harder when your anxiety starts effecting you physically. Have you talked to a professional about it? I strongly recommend you do. They can give you something either to ease your anxiety or even just for the nausea. You can also talk to a counselor who can help you find ways to cope with it that work good for you. A lot of times this anxiety can even be in our sub-concious, which makes it even harder for us to calm down! The best advice I can give is to try and think positively, and I know that's so much easier said than done, and talk to a professional.

Best of luck!

It does sound like anxiety, though I can't really explain why. I would suggest bringing something for you to do while you wait. It sounds like you need to distract yourself or give yourself something to keep your mind on so you are not sitting there thinking about other people near you, or being "trapped" as that is what my problem is. Similar to claustrophobia except you just feel "trapped" due to obligations.

So try listening to podcasts, music, or radio in the car. Bring a book or word puzzle or play a game on your phone while waiting. In the movies try to concentrate on talking with your friends or watching the previews.

Hope you get this sorted out

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...
