Anxiety Therapy? -
October 31st 2011, 08:44 PM
A few months ago my mom offered for me to go talk to someone to help with my extreme anxiety. I struggle with talking to people I don't know very well. I am extremely shy and I literally have to rehearse something if I will be talking to someone I don't know.
At first we though I might have Asperger's because I showed so many signs of it. Now, I am thinking it's extremely social anxiety. I want to get help, the therapist is an LGBT therapist, meaning they support the community and are trained to help those of the LGBT community. I just am not sure how to bring it up again to my Mom to ask her to help me with going and to sign me up. Also, therapy is expensive, and I am already using a lot of my mom's money for Physical Therapy and Dr. Appointments. I want to go and get better before I start my career and going to college and interacting with people. Advice? |

Briana, I say, if you can't talk to her face to face, send her an email, be like 'hey mom, so remember when you mentioned............ etc.' I really think you should at least try it, then you can say you tried yknow. Keep strong <3
And I will take you in my arms, and hold you right where you belong. Til the day my life is through, this I promise you.121109 |

Briana, the Anxiety might be it's own disorder, might have something to do with the Asperger's, might be both, or could be neither.
But, since it's causing you issues, the diagnosis isn't important. The therapy, however, is. I think you should take your mom's help and see the therapist, at least to learn new coping mechanisms, social techniques, or whatever else they have to offer for you.

I can kinda relate, especially about having to rehearse what I'm about to say to them. I suggest if you don't want to directly confront your mom about signing up for therapy then, like .Brittany. said, e-mail her or even write here a note.
