Anxiety? - March 28th 2009, 09:16 PM

Can I talk to someone that has anxiety? About experiences, coping mechanisms, etc? I find it easier to talk to people in the same situation.

I suffer from anxiety, well, paranoia. I take diazepam when I get anxiety, all though I wish I never did start with these drugs.

I also did CBT which is all about controlling your fears & anxieties & using coping mechanisms like breathing control.

Sometimes my anxiety gets so bad, I cant even open the refridgerator door.

Levels of anxiety are different in everyone so maybe you will get different responses to your questions.

For coping mechanisms you should really speak to a medical professional. They can set you up with many in times where you feel anxious.

I have dealt with anxiety for most of my life! It definitely would be a good idea to talk to a professional (like a therapist) to get the best help possible. But I also know how helpful it was for me to talk to others who understood, so I want to give that same help to you. If it would be helpful to vent or talk or chat, I'm here! I get it.

Oh I just meant talk to people my age. I mean, the couselors give you the best advice, but they're not teenagers.

And it's fine to talk to those you're age about being in those experiences, but asking them to help treat you by sharing what their counselors offer and such is probably not a good thing. Just because it works for them doesnt necessarily mean it will be best for you.

And teenagers aren't counselors. Everyone is different, so if a mechanism works for you, it may be useless for someone else or vice-verca. However, I'm of little use here as I have no anxiety.

I have anxiety too.

But everyone's anxiety is different, has different causes, different triggers and so forth.

Re: Anxiety? - March 29th 2009, 11:43 AM

I have it, the level of it changes though. It only seems to be when I have to be around people whether I know them or not. I can't work in groups or anything. I struggle to even go to lessons, I haven't managed to find a way of dealing with it but apparently I'm signed up to get professional help for it through school. You could always try that way, best part is they won't tell your parents if you don't want them to know.

Since the advice is being repeated over and over, I'm going to close this thread now. I would reccomend you speak to a counsellor. If you have any specific questions about anxiety, you can always make a new thread.
