I'm sorry to know that.
But there's no need to feel down. And no, you're not useless, definitely not! -_-
Just cheer up and don't think about all this.

Hi there.

I'm glad you've told us about this. Maybe we can offer you some advice which you'll benefit from.

I'm sorry that you've experienced a panic attack. Panic attacks aren't actually that uncommon. A lot of people will experience them in their lifetime but for some people it can be related to a mental illness such as an anxiety disorder. This can be treated with Therapy and sometimes along side medication.

Is this the first one you have had or is it a regular occurrence? I'm not asking this because I think if it's just a one of you'll be fine, you'll get over it and it's no big deal. I'm asking because if it's something which actually is a everyday problem you I was wondering whether you're aware of the triggers to it? If this is the situation and you're aware of the triggers you're more than welcome to talk to us about them so that we can try and help you get through those triggering situations.

If you feel anxious, I suggest getting yourself in to a more quiet place away from a lot of people. Try and ground yourself, remind yourself where you are, what you are doing and perhaps hold on to something such as if your chat on a chair, hold on it to. You can try taking deep breathes too just to regulate your breathing pattern to prevent you from getting in to a worse state. If you're already in that worse state, do the same. Get in to a quite place, maybe have a friend with you too. Try and remove yourself from the situation that triggered you to panic. Start regulating your breathing. Breathe through your nose and out through your mouth. I always try and do both for four seconds. And repeat it, to help you keep your breathing regulated. Once you get your breathing regulated this should help you start to feel better. Hyperventilating is very unpleasant. It can cause your bog to tingle, go numb, you hands can lock up etc, it can make you feel sick and in worse cases cause you to pass out due to lack of oxygen getting in to your brain which is why its important to try and get control of your breathing.

While doing all this try and do some self positive talking too. Tell yourself that it's happened before but you got through it okay and you can do it again. That as horrible as it is, these are only feelings and they can't hurt you. Having a panic attack can not hurt you, it's just unpleasant and that you need to work through it. You could even talk to a friend before hand and ask them if this does happen, whether they can sit through it with you and help you do the deep breathing and self positive talk. I know that helps me. When I've had them at school my teacher does it with me and often holds my hand which is quite comforting and helps me calm down so it might be worth mentioning it to a friend.

I hope this helps. If you want to talk to us about anything we're here. Think positive!

Jessie
