Sick of plastic. Any suggestions? - November 5th 2011, 06:49 AM

I don't like to use plastic. Each time I use it I feel guilty because of the whole harming the environment thingy.
Whenever I go to buy vegetables, I have no option but to use plastic bags.
Each vegetable is put in the plastic bag and then they all are put in a bigger plastic bags. I use a jute bag instead of the bigger plastic bag but I don't know what to do about the smaller ones. And they are really needed because it helps to keep things in the fridge arranged.
So does anyone has any suggestion as to how I can not use them without creating a mess in the fridge?

I could suggest buying ziplock, and then reusing them. I used to do that in high school for sandwiches or dry snacks, I would reuse the plastic bag a few times. For vegetables, you can get the bigger bags, and slightly rinse it after use and then you can reuse with the same vegetable.

I think there should be an environment forum. That'd be awesome. Talk about environmental issues and ways to be awesome!

To buy groceries I use reusable cloth bags. To store them I use Tupperware....

I suggest you reuse the plastic bags. You don't have to get a new one every time. Another suggestion I have is cloth bags. I work at a grocery store, and they work great! They're sturdy, fit a lot more than you'd think and in some places, they will give you a discount for bringing a re-usable bag. I also notice that people bring boxes. Those are sturdy and you can reuse them in most cases. As far as vegetables go, maybe put all produce in one bag/cloth bag/box. That way you don't have to use plastic
