Starting a movement - November 14th 2011, 02:08 PM

Has anyone here ever started or has wanted to start a movement?

Just to try your part at making this world a better place

Yeah, i have wanted to start a movement. The world is a mess, politicians getting away with murder (literally), greed and corruption everywhere.

The Goblins Blade: Of course, but it's always been that way, and it always will be. Since the dawn of civilization, whenever people live in close proximity there has always been corruption.

I just don't like when people act like this is something new.

I never have, but I've always wanted to be a part of one. I've seen things like occupy, but nothing that really interests me enough to want to leave my house or actively support it. (yet)

It really depends on what you mean by monement. Do you mean politically or service oriented. I've done some political stuff from time to time. But mostly I do "service projects" that are meant to benefit the community since I'm a Boy Scout, OA member and other things. I've personally ran several "service projects" that have had impacts on a local, national and international level. For instance, my eagle project I'm currently working on "Books For a Brighter Tomorrow". The purpose of this goal is to encourage books usein communities (mostly children) to increase scholarship, recycling old books and to boost moral(sp?). I'm building a book shelf for a book share program, collected over 500+ books for local charities such as A. I. Duponts children's hospital sending some book with a friend to Hatie.

So if that's now what you meant, but I'd figured it might encourage more discussion.

Re: Starting a movement - November 17th 2011, 02:49 AM

Well I never successively started my own movement, but I've been apart of several movements at my high school.

The *Highschool's initials*SACI
*my high school's initials* Students Against Cookies Inflation.

Okay so my school use to have these amazing cookies! Ahh they were nicely found, soft and gooey. Oily bits of heaven with nearly raw cookie dough in the middle0so just barely under-baked.

My high school is trying to scam us and make profit off the school, so they raised everything up 25 cents among a lot of other bogus things. Our 25 cent cookies became 50 cents. My school went crazy in an uproar. Someone in my year made a facebook about it as a group, and it turned serious. Radio stations started talking about it, articles in the newspaper showed up, and even one person got an interview from a show on the OWN channel. Sadly, they cut the prices but also cut the cookies in half...

Another movement going on in my school is suicide awareness movement. My district been facing a lot of suicides lately... Last year a really awesome kid in my year committed suicide. My school administration never acknowledged it as a suicide and kinda brushed the matter under the rug. We also had another kid pass away from a scuba accident who was in my grade last year. When that happened, my school was more open and helping about the matter.

A lot of people are upset about my Administration's treatment on suicide. My friend started a club, and she needed to go to another school's principal to talk to our principal before our principal could even "have the time" to listen to us. She's a blonde bimbo... A freakin puppet instead of a principal. Don't even get me started on my rant about my Administration... Well there's a suicide awareness movement heading up, and I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Sometimes all you need to do is sprinkle a little glitter on someone's raincloud to blend them a rainbow.

I wish I could, there are so many good ones. I'm all for suicide prevention, but I'd also love to see a shift in priorities in most areas, but especially education. The whole "teaching to the standardized test" thing while not including more things relavent to life and telling kids that the ACT and SAT will make or break their entire future SO doesn't work for me.

I definitely want to start a movement!
I'm brainstorming a couple ideas right now. But, I haven't gotten anywhere great with any of them. Would anyone be willing to let me bounce ideas off of them? VM/PM me if you are.

More focus on who people are instead of what they do/have done, what they look like etc. The idea that there's more to a person than any singular thing I think is something people need to understand. I also think both the adult and juvinille justice systems need a major overhaul along with the foster care system.
