What are some things you collect? -
March 18th 2012, 12:22 PM
I collect CDs (have about 140 so far), and am just starting to get into collecting records, of which I only have about 9 so far, since I can't get to my local record shop that often.
My rarest record? I won't say the band name, because they are a local band and I don't want to give out my location, but only about 500 copies of it were printed.
So, what do you guys collect?

Actually I have a ton of CDs plus records as well, although I've never really "collected" them.
As far as collections go, I used to collect fairy things when I was a kid, then anything about peace (peace key chains, peace signs, etc.). I'm not sure if it counts as a collection, but I am obsessed with buying books. If I read a book I like, I must own it.

When i was little I used to collect dead butterflies because someone told me it was rare to find even pieces of them after they die and i found a wing then proceeded to take home every already deceased butterfly i found. I never killed them though, mind you.
I also used to collect rocks, i still have that collection. Now days i don't collect much except for books and things from other countries, unique cool, and interesting things. I don't know how many i have or anything like that, i just like the cultural diversity in items that i can collect. And i have no idea how many books i have quite a few, i need a new bookshelf here soon.

Oh dear god, I'm an otaku. I mainly collect manga, which is basically a Japanese comic book. They're different from American books. They usually have over 200-300 pages and are read from right to left. I currently have 384 volumes of manga.
Also, anime dvds. I have every season of avatar, almost all the death note dvd's, all the inuyasha episodes, etc.
Japanese stuff. Mostly anime collectibles like action figures, collectible figurines, etc. But I also have a few geisha dolls, I have some beautifully painted hanging wall scrolls, a kimono, a japanese teapot and matching teacups with a bamboo pattern, traditional Japanese swords, I can go on forever here.
When I was younger I collected pokemon and yugioh cards. I have hundreds, maybe over a thousand cards in albums in the attic.
I love my Big Sleepy Bear.
I still fill my panties; do YOU?

My father and other relatives are avid coin collectors, which got me interested in some of it as well. I've gone to some coin shows and negotiated prices each time. My folks are mostly interested in Canadian currency, although I bought a variety of other currencies, particularly German Marks. My interest in it has fluctuated and right now, I'd say it's moderate. Some of the items, particularly bills are valued not because they're old, rather because they're uncut bills.
I tried collecting some knives, although at the time I was under 18, which made it rather difficult. I don't actively pursue it unless I go somewhere and see something amazing.
I also collect regular decks of playing cards. For a while I was into card magic and had a few small performances at resorts. Most recently, I've been interested in improving my card shuffling ability such that I can move a particular card to the top or bottom without making it obvious to people watching. Unfortunately, my relatives and friends don't expect me to deal a fair hand, although none have caught any techniques thus far. It's interesting especially for games where there's one set dealer.
I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

I've collected Willow Tree angels for a long time since I was little after my godmother died, they mean a lot to me. I used to collect Pokemon cards and still have them all.

I've never really thought of myself as a collector of anything but if I was to say I collected something it would probably be books by certain authors, and movies. I guess I also collect ticket stubs from concerts, train tickets etc

Stickers, I've stuck maybe a hundred or more on my door, I use to collect childrens books, rocks, yu-gi-oh cards (don't know where the hell they went now...)
My parents collect things too, my mom has owls and nic-nac dolls, my dad collects cameras (like, old ones, new ones, interesting ones)
I've said it once, I've said it twice, I've said it a thousand fucking times
That I'm OK, that I'm fine, that it's all just in my mind
But this has got the best of me, and I can't seem to sleep

I've never been one to collect things but I can certainly see the appeal. If I were going to start it would have to be something small and inexpensive so it didn't take up a lot of space or cost me a fortune.
Perhaps I'd go with rocks like some of the people here have said. Easy to find, easy to get rid of, some have a neat colour that might impress people, and I could fit them all in a box. Sounds perfect.

Actually I have a CD drive over a lot, too, although I never really "collect" them.
As for the collection to go, I used to collect the things you did when I was little, so there is no peace (peace keychains, peace signs, etc..) I do not know if it is considered as a collection, but I am obsessed with buying books . If I read a book that I like, I have.

I collect Stephen King books . . . Harry Potter books and paraphernalia (when I get rich I will buy a box set with all 8 DVDs) . . . keyrings . . . glow-in-the-dark stuff - when I get my own house, I'm going to use glow-in-the-dark stars to create a replica of the night sky in the southern hemisphere . . . I used to collect Enid Blyton books, then I sold them all, then I regretted it . . . and naturally I collect the majority of the art I've made, as nobody else has yet expressed an interest in owning it :P
Oh and I collect expensive items on RuneScape, though I doubt that counts as a proper collection.

I've collected a pretty good assortment of books. Unfortunately, I'm out of bookshelf space and am on a college budget, so I probably won't be buying any for quite a while. My favorite in my collection so far is a set of Charles Dickens novels from 1870, some of the last published while he was still alive.

hm...I'm kind of a pack rat so I have all sorts of "collections". When I was younger my parents started me a collection of cherished teddies, precious moments, now I have willow tree angels and such..porcelain dolls. I use to like cats and dolphins so over the years family members continue to buy me cat things etc . I guess I could count Christmas ornaments as well...my brother and I each get one every year from our parents. I'm probably forgetting something I could count like books but I dont really think of it as collecting them. *shrugs*

Records, I guess. I have a box, a bit bigger than a shoe box, full of ones I bought and about 10 rare ones, a few of which are signed. I don't really get many because I don't get to go to stores that sell them often and they can be expensive.
I also collect concert tickets as I go to a lot of them and I've saved them all and I have a nice collection of band badges from the concerts I go to as well, it's a nice memory of all the gigs I've been to.

I love collecting things. Books, if they count. CDs definitely count - I have to own the original CD. Not the download. I collect button badges - I have too many to pin onto one bag. And teddy bears. I think I have more teddy bears than books, CDs and button badges put together. They fill my entire room.

BEADS I'm like a magpie for sparkley things. I make jewellery, so at least I have a use for them, but I still have boxes and boxes of them waiting to be used. Panda related things, I've always loved them and built up quite a collection of stuff. ^_^ I guess also books and cuddly toys, I'm addicted to buying them and I have a LOT.

I collect notes and pictures, as well as yearbooks. Things that have memories for me. I have notes from 7th grade (in two weeks I'll be a sophomore) that my best friend wrote me. I have pictures that I took on the last day of 6th grade. I have my 3rd-8th grade yearbooks.

I collect books (Does that count?) Well I also collect sea shells, use to go to my grandpa's house and when it was time to go he'd give me a bunch of sea shells. He doesn't really do that anymore so I just look at garage sales and find them.
