Question Changing his major? - May 2nd 2012, 08:09 PM

My boyfriend and I had a discussion about changing his major. He likes welding, but I can sense that he's also not exactly sure if this is right for him. He feels the same way. He's really just an average college student when it comes to grades. He usually manages B's or C's. He's not very good in Math or English, but he does try really hard to be good at it. He's definitely good at art and music. He says he really does want to do something in Psychology or Sociology, but there aren't really any good jobs for that. Should I recommend he become a sort of therapist? I want to give him suggestions that he would enjoy. Thank you for reading and help if you can give it!

Hey Sam, becoming a therapist or counselor of some kind takes a lot of time and it's not an easy job so he should be sure it's what he wants before committting to that. If he's really interested there is such a thing as a music or art therapist. Also, there's more to psychology than counseling; almost too many concentrations to list so he could do something 'psychology' without having to be a therapist. Sit down with him and look through the majors and requirements with him and see what he's drawn to (or not drawn to). Maybe suggest talking to his advisor and/or professors in the majors he's interested in.
