Exclamation So Scared to Start Tomorrow! - July 3rd 2012, 06:15 AM

Hi guys,
I have been in training for my new job for 7 days, and tomorrow I start alone, and I'm just really freaking out right now. I don't have anyone else to talk to just to get some support, so if you all could just encourage me to get over these stupid fears that would be fantastic. <3 you all

Love everyone

Hey there! What is the nature of your job, and when (if ever) will other people be joining you tomorrow? I have never worked a job where I was the only person present (we couldn't do that, for legal/safety reasons); however, I can imagine how scared you must be feeling right now. You may be wondering what you'll do if something happens that you didn't receive training for, or if you forget how to do something, or if your other co-workers will be upset with you if something isn't done by the time they arrive. Whatever it is - RELAX. Even though you've received training, you're still new. Cut yourself some slack, and keep reminding yourself that you are still in training, even if the official training phase has ended. You probably won't be a "master" at this job for a few more weeks, possibly even a few more months, so don't be afraid to ask questions whenever you do see other people, and be sure to write down issues you come across while you're working alone, so you can bring them to someone's attention as soon as they arrive. Good luck - you're going to survive, you're not going to be fired, and with each passing day, things are going to get a little bit easier. =)

Well, Robin has given you some great advice. I just want to offer my support. It's the 5th of July where I am now so I'm assuming that you've started your job. How did it go? Try to keep calm; you've done the training for this job, you're qualified, but it's also ok to not know everything, you're only new. Do you have any kind of supervisor or boss at all that you can talk to at any point? If you have concerns try voicing them with someone senior to you, even if you have to wait until after the shift has ended to see them. Good luck with everything.

Hey there

Robin and Hester have given you some wonderful advice, but I also just wanted to give you my support and encouragement as well. I just recently got a job myself and am actually going into orientation later today. I know there is going to be a point that I'll be in the same boat you are, so know that you're not alone with these feelings. It's always a scary thing going from being in official training to working the job alone, but you can do it. As Robin said, try to relax. Know that you are not going to get fired and that you are not expected to do everything perfectly right away! In almost every job there are employees that have been working the job for years and still make mistakes every once an awhile. Remember to take deep breaths, relax, and ask questions when needed. You'll be great! If you ever want to PM me, feel free, I'd love to talk with you!
