Target Job Application Question? - July 17th 2012, 06:53 PM

Well, I really want a job at target. I filled out an online application, but the problem is I have a sheet of volunteer experience that I want to submit to show them that even though I don't have working experience, I have volunteer experience to bring to the table. So my question is does Target still have paper applications. And also, do any of you think that having volunteer experience will increase your chances of getting the job?

I thought that volunteer experience was exactly the same as work experience, bearing in mind that they're both the same except you don't get paid for volunteering?

I lost count of the number of times I tried to apply there. I don't think they have paper applications, but if you get called for an interview then you can take it with you. I seem to remember trying to put it on there somehow by making it fit, but I can't remember how.

Ok, maybe a better question would be, How do i show them I am serious about getting this job? I really want to work at the target stores, but I don't know how I can show them I am super serious about this.

There's really not much you can do. You fill out the application online, answer a LOT of questions that they use to judge your character, and wait and see.

Just add your volunteer time under previous work experience.

Call, don't bug, the human resources department if you really want to get noticed. If you get an interview, Congrats. If you don't, keep applying to other businesses.

Like Anthony has said,

I would really recommend calling that target and follow up with you application. Say that you've submitted an application and wanted to follow up on it. There's a pretty good chance that they may schedule you an interview during the call (as every job app that I followed up with at least resulted in an interview).

I previously had worked for IHOP but even before I was hired I followed up with my application after I received no call a week after my application; once I called them, they scheduled an interview and then hired me on the spot, and the same may happen for you. Just try to follow up with it and remain passionate!

Good Luck!

You would have to ask human resources that. I know that you have to obtain a work permit though.

I don't think they have paper applications anymore. You might want to consider bringing the sheet down to the manager of the Target you're applying to. It'll give them a chance to meet you face-to-face and it will show them that you're serious about the job.

If you fill out an online application, the questionnaire will ask you if there's any volunteer activities you've done in the past. I've filled out the application several times although I never ended up being hired. And as others have mentioned, it's a good idea to show interest in the job by calling them, say, the following day after you submit the application.

Here's another thing to keep in mind:

Most positions have a description of the job at hand. Target receives so many applications that they have a software program that sifts through applications by searching for words that match the description. Be sure to use some of those words to be noticed.
