Should I change schools? - July 17th 2012, 11:42 PM

I'm currently going to this school (SCHOOL A) and it is a great place, but I've been having a really hard time making up my mind whether I should change schools or not. Let me explain it to you...

SCHOOL A: It is public, so my parents don't have to pay anything. It is considered one of the best schools - if not the best by some people. But recently it had lots of strikes (we're currently into one) and our school year is already super late. For the two moths we went to school (July is supposed to be the sixth month during the school year) I didn't have any math classes and was the same thing with chemistry until a teacher showed up after one moth of school.
The environment is great, everybody is super open minded and I already made lots of friends there.

SCHOOl B: It is private (but here where I live everybody sends their children to private school because public ones are really bad, the exception being school A), and kind of expensive, but it doesn't cost a lot more than the general price for private school. It is known for its "snobby" students and it is definitely a less welcoming place. It is a school where people care a lot about looks, whether you travel abroad or not or and if you have anything from Apple. But having said that, I have met a few nice people from there, despite its reputation. It is also one of the best schools here. (Actually school A and school B are the two best school in town).

I hope I haven't confused you. Now, my problem is should I stay at this school where I have lots of friends, but risk not having some classes (at least that's what happend the last two moths) or should I go to the other one, which is paid and don't know anyone?

Oh, another thing: here high school only lasts three years, but at school A it lasts four (because it has a professionalizing course joined with high school). But if I changed schools I would have to repeat my first year of high school, so I'm only graduating in four years one way or another (the difference is because in school A we probably are going to enter our fifth year because of the strikes).
I was really hoping I could get some advice here. Thanks a lot, and I'm sorry for the long post.

Well, if you're planning to go on to college, School B looks like the better choice, as you wouldn't have to worry about missing classes or graduating later than you normally would. I feel it's important to actually ENJOY your time in high school, though... miserable students will probably perform miserably... so if going to School B means leaving all your friends, then I would think very carefully before deciding to switch schools. Personally, I would rather spend another year in school with friends and enjoy my time, than switch to another school and end a year earlier but be miserable due to not "fitting in."

Thanks for your answer, PSY
Yes, that's exactly what is troubling me. I know school B is the best choice if I think solely on my education... but I also know having a balanced life is important. Not that school B is a completely awful place, it really isn't; as I said, I know a few nice people from there (actually one of the people I most like studies there, but he's graduating this year, so...) but no one is really my friend.
IŽll have to think this through very carefully because once I changed - or not - schools I'll have to stick to my decision (they have different classes, so you can't transfer).
Well, I still have five months to decide...
