Everything seems to be moving so fast... - August 12th 2012, 03:06 AM

The year has basically just started and I don't know what to do. I am enjoying school but I feel like so much needs to be done and I'm overwhelmed. I am trying to get all my high school courses out of the way this year and am volunteering once a week and I do other activities for the school. I want to run for a office like everyone has been urging me to but I don't know whether it is a good idea or not. I really need advice cause I feel so lost.
I am sure I can get these courses done if I work hard.
I totally need to find some motivation and ideas of how to create a good schedule for everything.

Well, it might help if you could walk us through a typical week, and what your specific struggles are. It's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed and overworked when you have a lot on your plate, but most people can figure out how to manage their time and still get everything done. What have you been struggling to take care of? Are there any days when you have spare time (and simply don't utilize it well), or do you literally not have any time to do everything? If you haven't already, print off a blank calendar (like this), and fill it in. It should be for one week and should include time slots, so you can clearly see where you have free time (if you have any at all). Once you see everything in writing, it may be easier to rearrange your schedule and find time to complete everything (or time to relax, if you're overworked that's what you need).

Well I have 12 classes to work on every day. 7 are in school classes and 5 are online. On Saturday I work at an animal shelter. On Wednesdays I have to stay after school for band. I have no idea when the meetings for offices will be. Soccer should be starting soon too. I have various projects I have to do for my online classes and I have to do volunteer hours and I have to work at the school for as many events as possible so that I am able to go to banquet this year. That's all that I can think of right now but there might be more that is just not coming to my mind right now.

Hey, Sjsh304! That sounds like a really busy schedule to me- but in a good way! Staying busy is a great thing, especially when you're a scholar, an athlete, a musician, AND an animal lover. Do *you* want to run for office, or are you just feeling pressured to do so? I think most of the stress comes from elections, and afterwards there is not a huge commitment.

In a nutshell, think about what *you* want. If you don't really want to run for a position, then don't! You're incredibly occupied as is, and you just need to do what works for you.

Good luck!
