Should I try and go back? - June 22nd 2013, 04:45 AM

If anyone remembers my previous posts I had a lot of issues with my previous employer. My main problems were the first assistant. Well, she actually quit the day before I gave my two weeks and no one told me until about 3 days after I gave my notice. They told me I needed to get a tan if I wanted to wear certain things, that my boobs were too big, and that I needed to do my hair and couldn't do a pony. They were rude but there was good points too.

Now that I'm gone I'm really missing them and I miss the store, before I became an associate I loved the store and always wanted to work there. They told me once they were rough on me because they saw potential. From a few months in they had told me I was a great candidate for a management position once one opened. I applied for a management position when one did and they had me on hold for three months, I quit before they offered it to me. Soon after I was gone they gave it to a girl that had been there for about two months if even that. I miss how much fun we would have working and the music, I was encouraged to sign and dance and it helped the atmosphere. When I gave my notice my manager asked me how much they offered me and when I told her she said "I can't match that" and then I guess she was upset every day for the two weeks after that.

After I left my two managers came to my new work and talked to me a bit and informed me they were recruiting. Then just recently they came in again and pulled me aside. My main manager asked me how I liked it and I told her the truth that I didn't really like it but the pay was what had me and she said "that's too bad, I just hired a whole bunch of girls" then after that she asked me if I was searching for a new job yet and I told her not until my bills are paid down. I went online and I can see that there are some management positions still open but I don't know if I should apply back or if they'll even take me back.

I'm getting mixed signals from them as usual but I do miss it tremendously. I feel like they jerked me around but I don't know. The store is filled with fake girls but they started to feel like family and I miss some of them and I miss the clientele. What do you think? Should I reapply, do you think they would take me back, etc?

Edit: When I applied for the management position my main manager told me her only concern was her first assistant because she would be horrible to me. Then when my review came she told me she wished I was more outspoken and that I wasn't very appropriate on the sales floor (I talked to the other associates I became close to about my apartment, a date, etc).

In the end it's your decision. If it were me I would not go back because in my mind no amount of good atmosphere balances out the negative things that they said and did. If you're sure that the only problem was the one person who is now gone then it might be better, but if you're already getting mixed signals from them and you aren't even back yet then to me that's a red flag. There seems to have been more negative than positive, what will keep the same types of things from happening again? Even if they were hard on you because they saw potential, they were hard enough on you that it made you want to leave. If it were me I wouldn't do it, but like I said, the decision is yours.

Hey there,

I think it's best to think about it for a bit. It's a big decision choosing to go back to somewhere. I don't think I would want to go back working at a place where they were rude and didn't treat me like I mattered, but if it's something you miss and did enjoy, even if not everyone was nice to you, I think it is worth trying again. There are always going to be people who you don't get along with, sometimes it's worth it to leave, and sometimes if you really love it you've just got to get past it and focus on you.

I think it's worth reapplying, the worst thing they can do is not give you the job. If you don't reapply, you'll never know if they would have given you the management job.

I hope everything works out with whatever you choose. Good luck!
