Possible New Job as an RN - October 2nd 2013, 01:18 AM

Well, I graduate soon and I may be offered a job in an ER since we're hiring a lot. I heard a rumor so it's just a rumor. I've still applied to about 40 other jobs in hospitals right now just to get my application "out there" since most do not hire new grads till they are licensed.

While the ER may not be where I want to end up, it will give me critical experience that I can transfer it to another hospital. Just six months of working there and I should be ready to go.

Oh, Great! Good luck! I hope you get your licenses. I also hope that you can soon get to which position you'd like to get in the hospital fields!

I'd like to get into labor and delivery where I can work with women. I am debating about whether to become a certified nurse midwife or a women's health practitioner in a year or two.

Might as well go for it sounds like a great opportunity for me! And I know some hospitals have OBS who will do training with the nurses so that they can work on deliveries easier (as opposed to sending them back to school to specialize, they just get the basic stuff they need to be able to assist). You could always look into something like that for now before deciding to go back to school to be a nurse practitioner or what ever else

Our state requires the minimum of a masters degree for the nurse midwife though so I have to go to school. I'd want to be the one doing the delivery.

I had a phone call for an interview!

That's great to hear, ER is a great place to start as a Nurse. Just remember to keep calm and think on your feet!

I already work there though. I work up in front sometimes and sometimes in the back. A lot of times I do the initial triage.
