Foreign Language Learners! - December 19th 2013, 04:05 AM

I was just wondering if there are TH members who are studying foreign language, be it at school or outside school. Maybe we could be study buddy.

Ah, yes, a question. If you could learn any foreign language for free, what'd they be? For me, I want to improve my conversational skills in Mandarin. I am piqued by both German and Russian, even if the latter has funny alphabets

But Italian also seems interesting to me...

EDIT: the only foreign languages I have been learning are English and Mandarin... They're what you'd expect from Indonesian schools.

Re: Foreign Language Learners! - December 19th 2013, 04:11 AM

I had two years of high school Spanish and I'm a term into a year of Attic Greek.

I want to learn modern Greek, Russian, and Dutch. I also would like to get better at Spanish.

I'm also willing to study buddy with anyone

Sorry I couldn't be there, I was tied to a rocking chair.

Re: Foreign Language Learners! - December 19th 2013, 04:36 AM

I have taken 3 years of Spanish (several years back) and I am on my eight year of French.

I would love to improve my Spanish as well as learn German.

It would be really fun to have someone to learn a language with!

I used to take Spanish in middle school and it's likely I will have to take it in college.

I want to learn Spanish and French.

I've been studying French since seventh grade. I'm in Honors French 3 now and I absolutely love it.

I started taking Conversational Spanish in 6th grade and now I'm taking Spanish 2 as a freshman. I plan on continuing on studying and taking classes for Spanish as I want to become fluent in Spanish. It would also be helpful. I think the most helpful languages to learn would be Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, and Korean/Japanese.

I've been studying Japanese at school for four years and I know the basics of German. I'd love to learn Luxembourgish, Italian or Portuguese though.

It anybody needs help with Spanish, I can try. I wouldn't say I'm proficient, but definitely can be helpful.

Re: Foreign Language Learners! - December 27th 2013, 01:26 AM

I''m working on French fluency on my own. I want to work on my Spanish too, but they're so similar i don't want to mix them up lol.

When I get sufficiently fluent in Spanish and totally/almost completely fluent in French I want to move on to Arabic or Mandarin or Japanese.

I also want to learn Inuuvik (might be spelling it wrong through) or Ojibwe. Ojibwe might be more practical though.

Feel free to PM me if you ever need to chat or have questions

Re: Foreign Language Learners! - December 27th 2013, 04:07 AM

Wow everyone has been learning so many languages! I like the diversity

Ah, I almost forgot. If anyone is interested in learning Indonesian, I can help

Another question: what difficulties have you faced while learning those foreign languages? For me, English is hard on the numerous tenses and different uses, but my teacher told me even the native speakers don't care much about tenses while speaking. Is is true? As for Mandarin, I think the most difficult part is in pronouncing each letter and differentiating what each words mean through their tonal pronunciation.
