Exclamation I made a really bad mistake! - November 13th 2014, 07:52 PM

I was running out of time on a couple of science papers, so I copy and pasted, and and now my teacher is onto me. I already told her that they were my words . I really made a mistake. I don't know what will happen if I get caught. What should I do?

Hey there,

How much did you copy and paste? If it was a small amount, you may be able to get away with it. Though I wouldnít recommend doing it again. If it was a large amount, your teacher will be able to tell as it will sound different from your usual writing and she will be able to look for it online to find out if you copied and pasted.

Iím not sure what the consequences would be. If it was a one off, then it wonít be too harsh. Just try to have more time when doing work, and if you have to copy and paste, itís best to write who the original author was.

If your teacher has found out that you copied and pasted it, and wants to talk about it, itís best that you tell her the truth and that you ran out of time and you didnít want to get into trouble.

All the best

Hey,

Although you cannot go back and change your actions, you've realized that you made a mistake and that's what matters. Like Holly said, if you only copied and pasted a small amount you probably won't get caught; however, that depends on how you turned it in. I'm assuming you handed it in rather than sending it in online. There are a lot of online programs these days that are used to detect plagiarism. If you get caught the punishment depends on your school. Do you have an agenda book? Usually the school has their rules in there. When it comes to plagiarism the assignment is almost always given no credit and I'm not sure about further punishment.

Like Holly said, if you have to use work by someone else it's best to quote and cite everything. If you're approached about your assignment it's in your best interest to be completely honest.

What would happen if you get caught really depends on your school and can range from being asked to redo the paper and/or getting a zero to even getting suspended if it was a large amount. The best thing you can do if you are caught is to be honest because the more you lie, the worse it's going to be for you.

I copied the both if them entirely. I will probably fail the class, or get suspended. I don't want to get caught or for my mom to find out. I don't know how to stop it from happening.

I'm probably not the best at giving advice but I would admit to printing out a mistake, realizing that you didn't intend to give that to your teacher, and replace it with a genuine paper to make it appear as if you had an original piece the entire time.

I would tell her the truth because that shows her that your not trying to hide it. She might even give you a day to write the papers the right way and turn them in. But I honestly would own up to the mistake.Just be completely honest with her that way she might go easier on you.

What would happen if you did get caught depends on your school's rules. My school usually gave students a second chance. If your teacher does find out, I suggest you apologize and tell the truth. You could also request a day or two and get the whole thing done again. I know a girl in my school did that and she did get a second chance when she apologized.
Also, please don't do it again. Don't leave work for the last minute. Try doing it at the earliest, so you won't have to face it again.

I told my mom about it. She was really angry, but she didn't yell, thankfully. It actually felt good, even knowing I was going to be in a lot of trouble, that I got it off my chest.

Well done for telling your mom about it it's not easy owning up to our mistakes so that was really brave.
Fingers crossed if your teacher does find out about it then she won't be too hard on you.
Just apologise and promise not to do it again!

Hope it all works out
