graduation speech - May 7th 2009, 12:55 AM

well i need to start writting a graduation speech like now and i have no idea on how to get myself motavated. i mean ive been thinking about what to write form the beginig of the year nad it has something to do with me moving from one state to another and how ive become more of an open person and how i am able to have a mind ofr myself blah blah blah. and thats what expected of e to say becasue i havent been going to that school my whole life like everyone else and theres really nothing else for me to say. oh and we have to have a quote for the whole thing and mine is "sometimes we have to destroy what is in order to get what needs to be" or something. but the thing is how am i going to write about me overcoming all these bad things and stuff and talk about me being some awesome good person when ive really fucked things up lately. theres just no way i can get up in front of my whole family and say that im such a good person when i'll be practically lieing about the whole thing?

When I wrote my graduation speech, what I'd do is (I'm gonna sound a little nuts, here) talk to myself. Sometimes speeches aren't like papers--saying things out loud is different than reading them, silently.

The best advice I can give you? Speak from your heart. There was a lot of honesty in my speech--I even told them I wasn't sure I'd miss the place. But it was genuine. Be genuine, they will know and they will appreciate it.

Someday I will be strong enough to lift not one but both of us.
I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind

I agree with Jessie, you've got to speak from your heart and be genuine. don't just say what you think other people want to hear, or what you think you probably should say. say what you want to say and be honest about your experiences. perhaps add in a little humour to break it up a bit, although that can backfire somewhat. and i agree with the reading it to yourself, this is key to making sure it flows right. also, get someone else to hear you speak it and get them to give you advice between drafts of it.. it's always good getting someone elses perspective.

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..

I agree with the posters above. Don't let someone decide what you should or shouldn't write, let it come from your heart.

You are beautiful just the way you are.
Looking like a fallen star.
Don't listen to what people say.
They don't know the real you, anyways.
