Transferring colleges - November 9th 2015, 07:50 AM

So I'm transferring from the college I despise (ok, it isn't that bad) to my dream school. Im just kinda like, what now though? I have a good friend there(hoping for more though) and some old friends from high school, so it won't be like they're throwing me in with the lions (I'm not very good socially). I'm midway through sophomore year though. What should I do to get acclimated, socially and otherwise?

Wish I lived in Canada. UPDATE, NOV. 9th, 2016: This statement has become even more appropriate.

Quite honestly I think the best thing you can do is participate in clubs and activities. That way it's not as scary because you're meeting the people and will be familiar with the campus climate. You can also ask classmates how things generally run in the school and what normally goes on?

You can always keep in touch with old friends while making new friends, as Dez said! There are a ton of different clubs and activities at the university you're transferring to, trust me. It's huge, there are so many different lectures and organizations and extra-curriculars, it's almost overwhelming. I don't think you'll have a hard time making new friends, especially if you get engaged in organizations, church, sports, etc! And keeping in touch isn't too hard when you're not in a different state. I've now had both the "in-state" going away (I went to undergrad three hours from my hometown) and the "out-of-state" experience, and staying in touch with family and friends is not too bad when you're in the same state, even if you're far away. If you were moving to Arizona or something, it'd be different. But you're moving across the state. Just visit whenever you can (three day weekends, breaks, etc) and enjoy the rest of your time in the new place!
