Question Take-home test - May 19th 2009, 07:17 PM

Oh my goodnesss, TH, have I got a story for you.

I was absent in class the day we were given a take-home test in my Biology class. My teacher just emailed it to me, telling me to just write out the answers and hand it in on Friday. I opened the .pdf he had sent the test in. I was merrily plugging away at this open-book, open-note test. I write the essay questions, scroll casually down to the next page ontly to fint it contains--

The answer key. All the answers to the multiple choice section are there, lying in wait, just begging me to use them. I checked my answers. I was still unsure of one question and had left it blank. I had answered only one question wrong. I left it that way.

I deliberately put the wrong answer to the question I left blank and sent an email to my teacher, informing him of his mistake. I dunno what's gonna happen now. I told him I didn't use the answers to cheat.

But did I? Was checking, but not changing my answers just as bad? What do you think? What would you have done in my shoes, knowing it's past the AP exam and I graduate in ten days?

I don't think what you did was a bad thing. If anything, I applaud you for being honest and pointing out the mistake to your teacher. Yes, you checked your answers, but you did not change anything on your test.

When injustice had him caged and trapped in every way,
How did Ghandi ever withstand the hunger strikes and all,
Didn't do it to gain power or money if I recall,
It's to give; I guess I'll pass it on

I think he should be understanding, seeing as you admitted the mistake to him. If you had tried to hide the fact you had an answer key, that could go very badly, but as it is, it was his mistake, and you brought it to his attention.

"Live a good life.
If there are gods and they are just,
then they will not care how devout you have been,
but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by.
If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them.
If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life
that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."

I applaud you for not changing anything. I probably would have done the same thing (actually I have done the same thing in a similar situation). I hope that your teacher realizes that you are in fact telling the truth.

PM me if you ever want or need to talk, I'm always around

As long as you try, you have a possibility of success. This goes for every aspect of your life whether it be school, family, relationships or just life in general (or anything I'm leaving out).

The answer is... just... T-R-Y

If I were you, I wouldn't consider that cheating.... now if you changed your answers in your favor.. I'd say that would have been cheating. You even confessed you had the answers, I think you did the right thing.

Update!
He emailed me back. He thanked me for my honesty and said that if I gave him my word that I hadn't used the answers to cheat, I wouldn't have to take a different test.
Yay! And now I know I've done well. :P
