Honors Program? - December 9th 2016, 10:04 PM

Hello! I'm debating applying for the honors program for next fall. My adviser has told me I wouldn't have any troubles getting into it, I more than meet the requirements. If I'm in the program, I would get an additional $1,000 scholarship per year (which would help so much). The only thing that's holding me back is the rather large, year long project I'd have to do senior year. I'm an education major, so that project would be going on at the same time as my student teaching. Has anyone gone through this or something similar? I want to get an idea of how hard it would be before signing up for anything.

Sorry for the late reply!

I've not been in your situation, and am in a different country so can't really help much. That said, I did do a degree where the final year was a year long research project. I'd say that if you are good at planning and organising, it should be manageable. That said, you will also be doing your student teaching, which I imagine would also take up a lot of your time.

Is it possible to talk with your adviser about how you are wondering if it's a good idea or not and how you could cope with the program?

Sorry I can't be of much help, but I hope others can help you though!

Been meaning to reply forever.
The most important thing, in my opinion (feel free to consider to be batshit crazy and stupid) is how much will it help your career. If it will help, whether by providing the skills you need or giving you time to build a CV, or whatever else I would say go for it.
But in the event it doesn't really help, then I say, are you truly passionate about what you're studying. If yes, go for it again.
But if it doesn't help your career and you're not super passionate about it, then I would advise against it.
Also, like Celyn said, if you're going to be teaching, will you have time to manage the project etc. The best person to talk to about that would be a professor or Teachers Assistant (I don't know how your uni works. But basically anyone in teaching positions who knows you).
Hope that helps.
Best of luck!

PM me if you ever wanna talk. Send a message my way.
And remember, you matter. You're awesome. You're beautiful. Stay strong, the world will get better.

May The Force be With You.
