If it's not one thing, it's another... - November 30th 2017, 11:23 PM

So I've been through multiple jobs and they all sucked. This current one seems promising, however, they have me stocking the next few weeks and I've only had five days on the cash register. I'm worried that at Christmas time they're going to want me on register and I'm not going to know what to do. I mean, I'm not complaining about stocking, I prefer it to the register, but if they have me stocking for two weeks without any register experience I'm not going to remember what to do if they have me on register again afterwards.

This is more of a rant than anything, but isn't there any jobs out there that don't try to screw you over?

Hey there,

This might be something you could bring up with management. Let them know that you enjoy stocking but are concerned about not having enough time on the register. Usually they are receptive to this information and will try and figure out how to help you.

Best regards.

To be honest, it doesn't really sound like they're trying to screw you over. They likely have you stocking because that's either where they need you at the moment or because that's where they feel you're best suited. If you're concerned about not being register trained, the best thing you can do is bring it up with your manager or somebody else who's higher up than you are. That way you're showing initiative and also avoiding problems before they arise, both of which are good in a workplace setting. If you express these concerns and for some reason don't get the proper training, at the very least you then can't be held responsible if they need you to work registers and you don't know what to do - it's on them for not training you properly. But if you don't say anything, then they might just assume you know how to work registers and that could cause some problems later on down the track.

Hey Court,

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with this, as mentioned above, you should mention it to management. Explain to them how you're feeling. I run into this issue a lot with all the different unit's I work on, if I go to a unit I haven't worked on in a while, I struggle to remember how to do certain things. Maybe they can put you on register for half of your shifts, or something. I'm sure that they would be willing to work with you.

Miss you!
Brittany
