Work, work, work...

So following on from these posts, http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f22-education-careers/t159721-work-struggles/#post1349494 and http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f22-education-careers/t159782-stuck/, I've had enough of my full-time childcare position. They've been pushing my buttons and I don't want to be there anymore. Earlier this week, I received a text from my manager ON MY DAY OFF, asking me if she could change my shifts where I'll be alternating from opening the centre one week, then closing the centre the next and I'll still be doing the 10 hour days whilst still having Monday off (which I'm annoyed at because the majority of the public/bank holidays where I live fall on a Monday so I miss out on that). I politely told her that I wish to keep my shifts and she said that she'll speak to me the next day about it. I had a meeting with her and I explained how I felt. But I still have to those shifts. Now next week, I'm pretty much not working permanently in a room anymore. I'll be covering other staffs breaks.

Now my casual position, I've been switched to working behind the bar instead of a gaming attendant due to not being able to attend the training shifts because of my full-time shift (which they told me they'll organise time on the weekend for not only me but others who couldn't attend them). The gaming attendant shift was the position I REALLY wanted due to not being in that position before and potentially moving to a duty manager role.

I can't afford not to have both jobs due to a mortgage and other bills and I'm spending most of my time applying for jobs when I can. I have to tell my friends and family 'maybe' for upcoming events that I would really like to go to but I simply can't afford to lose any job right now.

Sounds like you're in a tough position right now. I would speak again to the manager at your main job. It might be that time of year at the other place; you know how it is since you work in the hospitality business. Some times are busier than others. I know where I am, we have quiet seasons and busy seasons. Not sure if it's like that in Australia, but I imagine it would be. :)

I would wait until it quiets down again before speaking to the manager at the bar job and requesting your desired position.

Thank you for your reply.

They mentioned they were going to cross train me at my bartending position to the gaming attendant when I have learned the system and when everything has settled down due to the venue opening on Friday. To be honest, I just want to get out of childcare altogether. I personally believe I've outgrown it.
