Univeristy Questions - June 5th 2009, 10:22 AM

Okay so I still have plenty of time yet but I'm just wondering if you're planning to take a gap year, when and how do you apply for uni? Because I always thought that your school or college helped you with it.

And secondly which universities are good if you want to study sciences?

as far as i've been told you apply at the same time as everyone else in your year and then defer it for a year. i'm not planning on taking a gap year, but definitely going to do a long summer and travel a bit, maybe even do camp America or something like that.

as for sciences specifically, no idea..

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..

Hi Cara,

As Ellie said, you apply at the same time as everyone who isn't taking a gap year, and defer your entry for a year (you will be given the option to select this while you're completing your application).

As far as finding the best universities for sciences, in part that will depend on which science you want to study. The guide that springs to mind is the Times Good University Guide (Good University Guide | University League Tables | University Rankings - Times Online) but there are others and unis will place differently depending on who rates them and the process they use to do so. As long as the uni is pretty good at the subject, I found it more useful to select unis based on the course content (such as if it's interesting to me, or if other unis do more interesting courses) and on visits to unis, but starting with approximate ratings is a good way to start to narrow down the choices!

Good luck with your application.
