Unhappy College :S - January 20th 2009, 03:03 PM

So i have an interview at college tomorrow, and they'll tell me if I've been accepted or not. My grades are good so I'm not worrying about getting the 5 A*-C's I'll need to get on the course i want to, but my attendance is quite low and i don't think i'll get in because of it

I don't know what I'll do if i don't get in, i don't think i could deal with it.

What do you reckon my chances are of getting in?

Hey Nic,

First of all I want to wish you good luck at your interview. Be sure to turn up smartly dressed and on time People don't like to be kept waiting.

When you are being asked questions try and focus on your strengths and give positive answers. Tell them you realise college is a big deal and you are prepared to put in the extra time and effort and that you are keen to learn. Make them see you are serious about this placement and you would like to be given the opportunity to show you can make it.

I hope it all goes well. If it does not then remember not to give up and to try again next year or at another college. Never give up on your dreams.

As I said, focus on your positive attributes and achievements, and also extra curricular activities. This will impress the interviewer.

Take care,
Vicki

Live on love.

I can't stress being on time enough either. Aim to arrive about 10-20 minutes beforehand so you can sort yourself out, drink some water. For a dress code you could ring ahead if it is in the afternoon and ask.

As Vicki said focus on your strengths. It is possible that your attendance will be brought up, prepare for this by thinking of a reason and change it into a positive (for example: "I've been ill recently and so I've had to stay off school but I have been keeping up by studying at home as evidenced by my predicted grades")

Another thing I must stress is that you should always ask a question, this could range from how many people are applying to what is the uniform policy - use your imagination

Good Luck and let us know how you get on

Don't worry too much about college interviews. With your grades chances are they will accept you. But as others have said to make sure you're on time and you don't need to wear a suit but do dress nicely, casual will usually do as long as they look nice and clean.

I got in! thanks everyone
It's a conditional placement so as long as I get the right grades I'll be starting in september!
I can't thank you enough for all the advice, it calmed me down re-reading it the morning before the interview
