College or Full-time job? - September 10th 2009, 06:37 PM

I've just started another year at college, first year on this course. And I also have an opportunity for an interview and possibly a full-time job. And I'm unsure as to which I should do. The course is for Travel and Tourism, and with that I would like to be an overseas rep, or cabin crew. And the full-time job is in childcare, as a nursery assistant. I know they are both completely different choices, but they do link in. Because I am also interested in becoming an overseas children's rep, and for that, you need an NVQ in childcare, which I could gain from the full-time job.

But I can't really decide which I should do. Any help or advice?

why dont you just work part time during your first year?
if you have morning classes, work 2nd shift. if you have evening classes either take 3rd shift or morning shift.

I agree with this person above. Could you not take on the job part time? If not then perhaps go to someone like connexions and discuss your options. They are normally very good with this kind of thing.

I agree with the other two people; working part time would probably be a very good idea.

Best of luck.

Yes, I agree with everyone else. Working part-time would be the wiser choice. If that cannot be worked out than I think this is a decision you will have to make on your own. You know what is best for you and your future.

I agree that working part-time is probably best. I'm going to school full time and working full-time and part-time and it's crazy. If I could afford to get rid of my full-time job, I would. Part-time is just enough and you'll need to focus on your studies.

The job I'm being offered isn't part time, and I don't know if I could discuss changing it to part time. But I'm full time in college, so I don't really have time to work around that, because obviously, nurseries aren't open that late. And I was hoping to work in the nursery and get training for an NVQ, and I don't know if that would be possible with part time work.
