Well done Stephanie

I got 3 A's and 6 B's and some D's and E's in subjects I didn't really care about.

One A, four B's and 5 C's. Not bad considering I was really ill at the time.

I got my results in 2008.
2 A's
6 B's
1 C

And I did a BTEC and got a distinction which is equal to 4 A's at GCSE.

3 C's

I was in and out of hospitals at my GCSE years, so I'm surprised I even got those.
Though I somehow managed to get a C in maths when I didn't even take the exam, and also got a C in English with only doing one of the exams...

Does it really matter?
GCSEs aren't a competition it is a personal achievement to the individual.
I am proud of my results, I did the best I could the results I got were good enough for me too continue on to what I wanted to do and I was happy. I have never once compared my results to someone else because it is just not worth making myself feel bad when I did the best I could.

If you did better then well done for you.

I nearly replied with this, but then I realised that actually, yeah GCSEs are a competition. Exams in general are a competition. Exams are there so that Universities and employers and further education centres are able to distinguish between candidates in terms of who is academically better. So yeah, I'd say they are a competition. If you are applying to the same grammar school, same college, or same course at the same University as someone else, you are in direct competition with them for a place - GCSEs are a major factor in whether you win or not.

It's great that you're happy with your results and if you did your best you SHOULD be proud of them. I defintley don't think this guys comment was appropriate either.

I totally get what you mean there and I think I worded my post wrong.
I understand that in an academic way they are a competition.
I meant that they aren't a competition in the petty way this guy is doing, I would never go up to someone who did worse than me just to go "Na na I beat you, I'm better than you, you fail at life hahahaha"

My grades aren't the best possible and I know that but I did what I needed to do to get on to my A Levels and I am happy with that, I would rather not have someone else coming over to just rub it in my face that they did better and try to put me down.
There were a few people in my school who got A*s and came over to me asking what I got (knowing I did worse) just so they could rub it in my face. Which is basically what this guy is doing and it really annoys me so I kind of posted in anger and didn't think it through.
I do totally agree with you though.

Since we have a variety of threads on this particular topic/this thread isn't going so well, I'm going to go ahead and close this.

Please keep in mind that as individuals, scores will vary. There is no reason to belittle or brag about your score in a way that will offend others. Thanks.
