Am I trying too hard? - October 16th 2009, 01:45 PM

I've always been quite a perfectionist when it comes to schoolwork. I've had a lot of homework this week. I needed to finish designing a book jacket, I needed to revise a huge essay, I had a big Geometry worksheet pack to finish, a list of multiple choice questions to write for history, and a video project for this morning. Thing is, I haven't had hardly an hour each day to myself all week. It's been taking me hours to finish all of my work when it really shouldn't be. At least I don't think it should be. It just irritates me that other students can get all of their projects done within a few hours and still get an A, and I spend so much time worrying that they aren't good enough and trying to fix them up. True, I often get the grade I want or something close to it, but I always feel like it should've been easier. Am I doing something wrong? Am I trying too hard? Or is this completely normal? Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

I thiink your just a very focused person, nothing wrong with that

You can keep at it and get the marks you want, you certainly won't regret it later on . Thing is, is lot of marks for a project just come for little things, things you'd automatically put, but then to get the really top marks you have to spend hours on things ...

I hate the fact some people don't have a life outside of school though, well not hate, but feel sorry for them, but I do admire them too, because they'll do very very well and in some ways I'd love to be that focused.

So in answer to your question, your not trying too hard, thats ever really possible, your just doing very well, and its completely normal, just not many people do it

How can one love themselves, when they love absolutely nothing?
Do something that is interesting. If it is not interesting, find out why it is not interesting.

you're focused, you know what you want, and you WORK HARD. thank god for someone else who does! School standards have been lowered so much that you can do nothing and still get an A. you're the one who deserves the A, so wear it with pride. it's really a good thing. I wish I could be more like you. =)

I want a moment to be real
Want to touch things I don't feel
Want to hold on, and feel I belong
And how can the world want me to change?
They're the ones that stay the same
They don't know me, but I'm still here

I think you should also bare in mind that most people don't let on how much work they do.

For instance, I often say "Yeah I do about 3 hours a week of my own work for biology". In reality it's more like 5-6. People who say "I don't revise at all!" normally do.

And I agree with what everyone else says. You're focused, you want your work to be to the best of your ability. As long as you make time for yourself to relax, thats a good thing.
