NiSO4 + Mg(C2H3O2)2 ----> Ni(C2H302)3 + Mg3(SO4)2

At first I found this confusing the way it was written. I am assuming all of the numbers are subscript numbers, if not, please tell me which are subscript and which are not.

I believe SO4 has a -3 charge, so for there to only be one Ni, then Ni must be Ni with a +3 charge rather than a +2 charge. Mg has a +2 charge so C2H3O2 must have a -1 charge.

For Ni to bond with C2H3O2 there must be 3 C2H3O2's, and for SO4 to bond with Mg, there must be 3 Mg's and 2 SO4's.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you need clarification.

SO4 has a charge of -2 at least according to what we were told in class

and yes all the numbers are subscripted...i didnt know how to do that on here.

I might be a bit rusty on that

This is the balanced equation then.

NiSO4 + Mg(C2H3O2)2 ----> Ni(C2H302)2 + MgSO4
I don't understand how your answer is wrong, then. I'll need to look up my old chem notes.

EDIT: Actually I don't think your answer is wrong if that is what you put down. I think you should really go talk to your teacher.
