Question Your college course not for u? - November 16th 2009, 02:40 PM

I'm currently a freshman at my new college and I'm not exactly happy with what I'm doing. I'm taking up an engineering course but that doesn't seem to work. I really don't know what to do with the rest of my life. If I could choose I want to be a little more of a teenager without the pressures of adult life just a bit longer...

Hey there;
I didn't know what i wanted to do, so i took a course recommended for me.
I hated it, i was stuck there and it was just a waste of a year.
I left a couple months early as my grades were slipping and i couldn't keep on predenting.

You have to think, is it the people, working hard, or the actual subject you dont like?
You have to be serious and don't give it up without thinking it through.

But, if it's not right for you, staying there longer will make it worse.
But think of what your gonna do, you need to have a plan.

So when i left, i did some community work to keep me busy, iv'e got a job i love, to make some money and new friends,and i'm taking a ''gap year' to really explore things and see what i really wanna do, then when i start doing it, i'll be more focused xx

Hey there, it pretty much sucks when you find yourself in a course that isn't for you. You may have people telling you to stick with it, you've only just started and of course it'll take some getting used to. I think that's true for some people, but if it's not for you then you shouldn't have to just stick with it. Talk to the staff at your college, because even if you end up talking to someone who can't help you they'll be able to point you in the direction of someone who can. I hated my course to begin with, ended up sticking with it for the whole year and then changed. Yes, it might seem like I wasted a year, but I still get some sort of recognised qualification for it. Don't suffer in silence, there are people who can help you decide what you want to do, but they need to know and it's better to do something sooner rather than later.

I was sent the pre terms work for my college course and decided no there and then I knew It'd never get done too I sat it out for 3 months, found myself a job and absolutely love it! Got friends round me, We go on outings (occasionally) xD, Its close too home, and I'm getting paid too!

Just because you don't enjoy your course, if you drop out, it doesn't make you a failure

How can one love themselves, when they love absolutely nothing?
Do something that is interesting. If it is not interesting, find out why it is not interesting.
