Navy vs. Airforce - November 30th 2009, 11:43 PM

ok so ive been looking into the two schools above ^^ and I'm definitely sure that I'm interested in one of them. I love to fly an I plan on getting my private pilot license when i turn 17 so I really want to fly for someone, its just that there are so many differences between the two and I was wondering if anyone had anything they want to say, maybe if they know someone who goes to either one? All is helpful Thanks!

Hey there
I'm not very familiar with the Navy or Air force, but if you want to be a pilot, Air force seems like a good choice. All branches have the same benefits but the amount of traveling you do, your advancement and the type of training you will get is a bit different. A friend of mine is in the air force and is going to school to be a Pilot. Do you plan to enlist?

Yea thats my plan, although I heard that the airforce is only training pilots to fly th predator drones, not actual fighters.

Hey.

I'm in a similar position at the moment. Unfortunately although I fly in the holidays, I'm not allowed to fly in the forces because of medical reasons. However, I still want to work with planes.

Remember that the NAVY has it's own Air Arm, and the NAVY tends to travel a lot more than the Air Force.

I spent my Work Experience week at my local Naval Air Arm Base, it was AMAZING! I met a guy there that has worked for both forces, and he said that the NAVY is better - obviously that's just his personal opinion though.

I advise going down to your local careers office and speaking to both about what you want to do etc.

For me personally, although for years I had my heart set on the Air Force, it actually turns out that the NAVY has more opportunities that I'm interested in.

Basically, flying with the Navy is harder and more dangerous. However most Navy pilots wouldn't move to the Air Force if they were paid, so I'd see if you can talk to a pilot to see which you'd prefer.

I don't think the Air Force are switching over entirely to UAVs yet.... unless they're after cancelling a large order of F-22's
