Oh man, physics is a really hard class. It really sucks how parents get so upset over a mark like that, I mean, if they had taken the course, they probably wouldn't do so great as well. I hope they don't end up grounding you for it.

I'd say you tell them first, then you can tell them that it was a tough exam on that day and that your other results will bring that 60% up

Physics is a tough class. The best thing you can do is sit down and talk to your parents about your grade. Tell them how difficult Physics is and reassure them that you will continue to try your best.

Have you considered staying after school with the teacher? He/she can give you extra help. You should also try to review your notes a couple times a week, review homework, labs, past quizzes/tests before an upcoming quiz/test. Best of luck to you!

Josh, you might as well just get the pain over with! It won't be THAT bad, physics is hard.. give examples of people who did worse than you perhaps.

Good luck!

Go and tell the parents before they find out. That way, you can use the excuse if "it was hard blah blah blah, these people also failed the test". They'll still probably get pissed but at least you can use that card a bit better. However, making up excuses won't solve the problem. On the paper, you got a 60% regardless of whether it was hard or not.

Talk to the teacher/prof and see if they'll help explain the questions you got wrong to you. Or, find someone who did better, or get a tutor. Physics isn't the easiest subject but the crappy grade is showing you that you need to pull the socks up, man up, and improve.

Hey,

Physics is hard for a LOT of people. You're definitely better off telling your parents before they find out (that's what I usually do when I get a bad grade). Explain to your parents that you didn't get the lowest grade in the calss.

Yournightmare had a good suggestion- talk to your teacher and see if he/she can go over with you the problems that you got wrong. You can also try asking someone in your class that's doing well (someone who as a solid A, preferably).

If you ever have any physics-related questions, I may be able to help, so feel free to send me a PM or IM.

Don't worry about it. I found Physics hard last year (God knows how I scraped a B) so I dropped it this year. You can always resit the exam right?

If you have a legit doctor's note or police report then I believe you can resit the exam. If you wrote it, then too bad, cant resit. You may be able to ask for a remarking but that's not likely to change the grade a lot unless the marker screwed up terribly. A parent's note won't be sufficent.

I would just tell them the longer you leave it. The harder its going to be for you to tell them.

It's a pretty low mark and definately not something to be very proud of. If I got the 60%, I'd be pretty annoyed. To me, anything 75% and below is fairly low, unless it's an extremely hard course where I'd be more leniant and go with 70% to make myself feel a bit better if I really screw up. 60% shouldn't by any means be a mark to hold your head up high about nor aim to get.

hmm maybe in your opinion, but for some people 60% is good.. that would be a C or a B at gcse.. and theres nothing wrong with a C or a B.
just because you wouldn't be proud of it doesn't mean its not something to hold your head up high about, some people find academics harder than you.

I guess OP was pissed about his grade, though. It really does depend on what the individual defines for himself as good or crummy.

When this happens to me, and it happened to me quite a bit in physics and maths is I would make a plan. I would make a plan to meet with the teacher for extra lessons, and I would find smart buddies to review for tests with me. I would present this plan to my parents along with the shitty grade and then follow through with my plan and try to compensate some of the damage.

Some teachers are willing to salvage your grade at the end if you show massive improvement and put in lots of effort with them. I would work on working more, and working with the teacher.

Good luck, Josh. Physics sucks, but it's an important subject.

Physics is a really hard course, so don't beat yourself up too much. I'd sit down and tell your parents before the grade gets emailed to them. That way you the opportunity to explain about the test and it doesn't seem like you're hiding it from them. They might even see it as being responsible.
Good luck! :]

Grading is different in the US than it is in the UK, everyone. 60-69 is a D and anything below a 60 isn't a pass, I believe. Also, I don't think most high schools offer resits, but you may want to ask. Testing in US public grade schools tends to be a "one shot" deal. Either you do well the first time or too bad.

Anyways, that's rough, Josh, but remember that this isn't the same as a 60 in, say, phys ed. Physics is hard! Try reasoning with your parents?
