Piercer? - January 29th 2009, 07:29 AM

Hey,

I was thinking about what career I would really want to do and have come to the conclusion that I would really want to be a piercer. I know I would have to have health and safety certificates but does anyone else know what other qualifications I would need?

Thanks.

I'm sure you could look at college websites for places near you, or even go into a studio to find out.
Perhaps it's a course you need to do, and I do believe that you may need to do several to progress further.
Good luck!
Lou.

I would do, as suggested, go to your local piercing place and speak to the guy/girl who does the piercings and see what they have and maybe speak to a career guidance counselor or someone similar to make sure.

my friend is becoming a piercer and he just got an apprentiship at a piercing place and is learning that way, by the end of it once he's got the safety certificates and all he'll be able to pierce people. i think you could look into seeing if you could do it that way?

I looked into it as well. I think you search piercers board or something like that. I know that you have to have an internship somewhere and take health classes or something like that. They make excellent money, but if people don't trust you. You're not going to make money.

Hiya. The best way to become a piercer, like a tattoo artist, is to try and get an apprenticeship. It can be quite competitive though. The best way to get into that industry is through hands on experience and watching a professional doing it - qualifications don't count for much when it comes to piercing.
If you manage to get an apprenticeship - I'd ask your local piercing or tattoo studio (they usually pierce there too) they will also teach you about health and safety. If you do well in the apprenticeship - you can be certified as a piercer.

You can check out Jobs4u at Connexions-Direct - most of the info is on becoming a tattoo artist but piercing is mentioned - and the health and safety and working enviroment, as well as getting into the industry is pretty much the same

Here's the link: http://www.connexions-direct.com/job...etailedArticle

Hope that helps,
x
