Procrastination!! - January 9th 2010, 03:16 AM

I am the WORST when it comes to this. And now I have all these projects due and just can't get myself to do them and I really need them to up my mark! Anybody have any suggestions on how to break this bad habit...or watever it is, would it be considered a habit? Ah, watever.

Oh gosh. I'm pretty bad too. One thing that helps me a bit is to work to music. It makes it a little less boring.

Not going to lie, above my computer monitor I have a handwritten sign that says "YOU BETTER FUCKING DO IT".

It's pretty immature, but I will doze off, look at it, and then get back to work. Sometimes

Re: Procrastination!! - January 9th 2010, 10:20 AM

Ah, procrastination, the devil in my life. I'm a sucker for it too. Got an essay that I'm meant to be doing today, what am I actually doing? Sat on here talking about bloomin' procrastination. Lulz xD

But yeah, if anything I find doing small parts at a time helps. Give yourself rewards, or more bribes to get you through. So for example say to yourself that if you get to the end of the chapter [if you're reading] or the end of the paragraph/section you're writing you can do such and such. I think all the 'kid' theories help. As in, making a list of what you need to get through that day. Doing that helps as well because you can actually physically see yourself working [or not working!] your way through. I like the idea of notes to yourself as well.

Haha I love the sign idea :P

I think I'll try the bribe thing too. I can't wait until this semester ends, then I can start the next with a clean slate. So much less stress.

Thanks guys.

Yep. Clean slates are nice! On the other hand, it means for the first week or two each assignment carries a lot of weight and literally you can fail your class in the beginning for forgetting to turn in ONE thing!

I don't know if this would help anyone else, but whenever I'm working on an assignment, I have a movie playing in the screen behind the one I'm working on. They are usually foreign language and Australian movies just because I enjoy the voices.

I'm also with those who have said doing a little bit and then rewarding yourself. I constantly do that when writing long essays.

Waitin' for my ruca.

Maybe you could try getting organized. Get everything organized for each class, then make a list and schedule for what needs to be done for each one. Break down the list into smaller more manageable groups so you don't feel overwhelmed. And reward yourself like others have suggested
