Question hmm... what to do? - February 3rd 2010, 02:52 PM

Lately, I've been wanting to become a Youth Minister of some sort when I grow up. Those of you who know anything about youth ministry know that it's very difficult for a girl to get a job as a pastor. But I have another problem on top of that: I'm bisexual, and I've been thinking lately that I might actually be a lesbian... I feel as if my chances of being a youth pastor have been killed... and btw, I don't really wanna be a lesbian... anywho...
Also, I've always dreamed of becoming a Voicover Artist (cartoon voice person). It looks super cool, but my insecure chicken self won't let me try to become one... I wouldn't know where to start...
Any help???

“I can only hope that they’ll turn that anger and frustration and madness into something positive, so that two, three, four, five hundred will step forward, so the gay doctors will come out, the gay lawyers, the gay judges, gay bankers, gay architects … I hope that every professional gay will say ‘enough’, come forward and tell everybody, wear a sign, let the world know. Maybe that will help.” Harvey Milk, 1978

Well, the bi/lesbian thing would probably be a huge hurdle in the Youth Ministry field. There are churches that allow homosexual clergy, but they are relatively few and far between. You mentioned that you "don't want to be a lesbian," though. Care to elaborate on what you mean? I'm just curious, and it could affect possible ministry opportunities.

As far as the voiceover thing... I have not idea how one would get involved in that field, so I can't be much help there.

well I obviously like girls, but I don't really like the fact that I do...

Well if a church is true to scripture, the urges/attraction should not be seen as a sin, only acting on them. It is something, though, that you would want to be up front with with schools and churches in my opinion.

Also, if you "don't want to" be a lesbian, there is the option of counseling for it. I only mention that if someone says that they are unhappy with their orientation, so don't think I'm trying to come in and change you. That's just not how I operate .
