APA Formatting - February 26th 2010, 10:33 PM

Tell me anything you know about APA formatting. I have a paper due in Human Development in this style. It's going to be my first time.

APA formatting is for stating the sources you used to get all the information about your essay and depending on what you use (books, website, magazines, newspaper etc.) you have to list them in a certain manner.

The Harvard/APA* referencing style is fairly easy. If you get stuck try Googling either and there plenty of websites that detail how to reference every possible type of source. This is a good website I used while at university, and this is another that looks decent. If you need further help feel free to show me what you need to reference and I'll help you out.

*There are slight differences between the two, but they are largely considered to be the same.

I think EasyBib allows for APA, I've used it there I'm 99% sure.

That might solve all your problems.

There are examples for each part of your paper from title page to references.

Here's the one I use http://citationmachine.net/ Just make sure your margins are all 1" and that you have a title page if your prof requires one. Also, make sure that your pages are numbered correctly with your last name and page # in the header (except on the first page.

If you are going to be writing a good number of papers in APA style in the future, I recommend buying the style manual. It's really handy to have it for when questions arise. Looking things up on the Internet can be convenient, but the web pages can be wrong whereas the style manual can't. I personally own the APA and Chicago/Turabian style manuals, both in their most recent editions. It is definitely important to keep up to date on your editions, though!

I have a book from high school that I still use and it's a good thing because the college recommended one and then they realized there were things wrong in it.

Ya, that's why I'm even wary of books, not just the internet. But, if you have the actual style manual, there won't be anything wrong in it. The style manuals don't come cheap, though.
