Interview support.... - February 2nd 2009, 03:20 PM

So as i've posted before. I'm planning to do a social worker degree, and have my first interview next tuesday at Hull. Now...I'm generally good at interviews, in that i'm able to smile, be confident, polite and so on. But...I panick at questions...and ramble...so to prevent this i've been searching piles of sites about questions and things. So I need help with the following.

1) Why do you want to be a social worker?.....I know its a silly one....but what's in my head doesnt seem to sound good. So I wanted to know what people would/have said....so i can add bits to mine, or re-phrase.

2) What is a Social Workers role in Society?...Again....I have my idea...but wanted to know what others thought...

3) Contemporary Issues...I've been told they'll ask about contemporary issues. And i have no idea what to look at. I've looked at a few cases, but no idea the types of questions they'll ask. What type of things i need to know.

So yeh....please please please help. I'm absolutely petrified. Oh...and any other tips of things to say/not to say.....Or typical questions/good answers...

Thanks soo much, i'm literally shaking like a leaf

I don't know much about social work lol

1. Be honest really - say that you want to help children going through a tough time and that you want to make a real difference to the world.

2. I'd say it's to ensure the safety of people who may be in danger

3. Baby P will be a good point to bring up and show both sides of the story

I can help because you already know I studying social work!

For why you want to be a social worker say something along the lines of you want to improve peoples quality of life and empower them to make the changes they want in their life. This is what a social worker manager told me to say at interview! You just blab on really!

2. You could say about the different areas you could work in within social work e.g. children and families, mental health, older people. Then what each area is about. Then just summarise and say something like social work involves provision of sufficient support to vulnerable people in order to improve their quality of life and find solutions to their problems.

I have got full answers for these questions that I prepared last year somewhere. They should be saved on my laptop somewhere so if you want to see them then just let me know:-)

Thanks for replies. JenJen, i'd be grateful if you did send me those answers, as they would be helpful..
Another thing is...what questions can i ask the admissions I've got a couple....whether you can specialise in elderly people, and how the placements are organised...
but anything else?
