Question AP Classes and Failing. Help? - April 1st 2010, 10:55 PM

So here is the thing:
I have three AP (Advanced Placement) classes.
I wanted to have four but I decided to late.
I am currently in AP Calculus
I am failing
Only because they did not give me Pre-Calculus
I had transferred from another school and thet said AP Calc was the same as Analytic Geo/Trig
However, that is the equivalent of Pre-Calculus that I did not take
So, now I am failing
I do not see the point in changing out of it since eventually I will have to take it
And I would rather take it now since the school year is almost over
I even went and bought the book "5 Steps To A 5" for AP Calculus to try and ensure that I pass the class and possibly the exam.
(Just to clarify I have a D in that class, which, to me, is failing)
I do not like failing or doing under what I usually amount to.
Any advice?

I think that you can fail the class and then retake it. You can also talk with a counslor and explain that someone screwed up and put you in the wrong class because you didn't take the equivent and blame it on them :P

I do blame them.
lol
I was going from the AICE program to AP
So it was all different to me
I talked to my Calc teacher
She said I should quit but I do not want to quit
Plus if I fail, doesn't that go on my transcript?

Can you get a tutor? Pre-calculus classes you can teach yourself without too much difficulty and with a tutor should be okay! Or can you get extra support in school to get you up to speed? Or switch into a pre-calculus class?

If you fail the course, then yes it goes on your transcript but if you fail the standardized AP exam, then that does not. If I were you, I'd ignore the 5 steps book and get a tutor because if you haven't learned pre-calc, then the book isn't going to be of much help whereas a tutor will be as they know pre-calc, AP calc and more. Alternatively, consider switching into a pre-calc course because although you'll do AP calc eventually, you need to know the basics. It's like doing a fourth-year biology course on advanced neurophysiology and failing it because you haven't even done Grade 12 biology.

Okay I can understand that
I kind of feel that if I got switched into Pre-Calc that when it came time to take Calc again it would all be repetitive
And I hate redundancy
But I think I will definitely look into getting a tutor
For some reason, that never crossed my mind
