Access Courses - April 17th 2010, 07:59 AM

So i'm looking for information for a friend.

He's quiet academic, but with very little motivation. He's 19, and dropped out of 6th form. but now wants to study so he can go on to do a biology degree.

He's been told an access course is best. But i cant find any information them. Does anyone know some information? Thanks

Hey there,

Sorry it took me so long to get to your thread. Do you guys have continuing education over there at all?

My cousin is doing an Access course.
The full title is Access to Higher Education, what you gain is the equivalent to A levels and you can then go on to university with them.
It would probably be easier for me to help if I new where about in the UK you are but the courses are usually run through a local college.

Here is the website for info on courses
http://www.accesstohe.ac.uk/default.asp

This is where you can search for courses and where they are
https://ava.qaa.ac.uk/SubSites/PublicSearch/search.aspx

Hope this helps.

He could do a science foundation course, which is what I'm doing at the moment. They don't need too many ucas points (I think I needed 160 for mine which was a C and D at A level, but entry requirements vary). I know quite a lot of uni's do them. If not, as said above there's the access to higher education that he could do.

Thanks for the help people. He's found a few access to science courses- and because he's on benefits it's paid for. so he's got an interview in may. Fingers crossed.
