Swim Team - February 9th 2009, 09:11 PM

Ok well next year I'm gonna be in High School and I signed up for the swim team and there arn't tryouts so I'm automatically on the team.
Well I'm pretty fast but I was wondering if anyone had any tips on going faster...

Make sure you wear a swimming cap over your hair and keep your arms and legs shaved. The smoother you are the faster you cut through the water.

Actually this is like my 6th year on a swim team, basically:
- dont shave your body until your last race
- wear a cap at all times
- wear a drag suit (second suit: bigger fitting) during practices
- lift weights/ core workouts in the mornings before school or after practice
- make sure you don't sit out for any yardage, even when you are exhausted, just go slower, dont stop.
- don't miss any practices, leave early or come late if you MUST
- eat a healthier diet (see a nutritionist if need be or talk to your coach)
- ask your coach about your stroke, or an older member of the team: see what techniques you can improve on
- Google ideas for better streamlines..?
- test out what stroke you personally do best at, not everyone is a freestyler or breast stroker
- for big meets: you can buy special bathing suits to make you super fast: fast skins/ lasers, blue seventy's
- Make sure to give each practice 110%

Also, talk to your coach about ways to make you better, I am sure she/he has his/her own ideas, too!

Good luck!

Re: Swim Team - February 10th 2009, 01:48 AM

This is my first year doing swim, my first practice is tomorrow!
As for the suit, I would ask. I know at my school you are required to wear the school issued suit and no school can have a person wearing a 'super' suit.
Advice that I've been given is drink lots of water and Gatorade.
Good luck! I hope that you have lots of fun!
