Question i have no clue - June 10th 2010, 09:37 PM

I have no clue what career i should persue. All of my friends and classmates have an idea about what they want to do with there life and i dont. I'm really worried that when i decide on a career path that the GCSE's i've chosen to do wont be of any use to me. I am quite a bright girl and i get good grades i guess, but i enjoy english, art and history the most. I love being creative. I have thought about becoming a lawyer, photographer, receptionist and even an MP... I am really confused and i was wondering if maybe you'd be able to suggest any careers to me??

Thanks xx

Youre only 14, you're not supposed to know! Pick well regarded GCSE subjects tat leave all options open and ones you enjoy. Guarantee your friends will change their minds, or some of them will, at least once. Don't fret about a career yet, just enjoy wha you're doin and that will naturally lead you in a direction.

It's fine to have one.
It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat.

You're 14, it's not expected you truly know what career you will want to pursue. Your friends may have their views but people that young tend to flop around between various careers. My cousin went from wanting to be a veternarian to astronaut to marine person back to veternarian to science or english teacher and the list goes on. I was very similar, wanted to do veternarian then professor/teacher then FBI/CIA/DEA person then doctor then physicist then ... . Don't worry about it because at 14, you're not meant to know what career you want, you're meant to learn about the world, general academic courses and possibly sports. Give it a few months, maybe less and your friends will have changed their minds at least once.

You are young it is not uncommon for a person your age to have no idea. Matter of fact, many people enter college having no idea and do not declare a major until after they get their core subjects out of the way. Many also change majors at least once.

My best advice research different careers think of the skills you have and what you enjoy most, and just keep in mind you have plenty of time to make a choice.
