Smile Peer Buddy First Meeting Help? - July 2nd 2010, 08:17 PM

I am going to be a Peer Buddy, which is basically supporting a year 6 as they come up to year 7. We have to meet them for the first time on Monday and I have no idea what to say when I first meet them. I know I need to introduce myself and explain what peer buddies do. But besides that I don't know what to say or do. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to sound really pathetic but I want to say something.

Also if anyone has done something similar in their school can they give e a few tips on what or what not to do? I have done the training for it but I'm just worried I'll mess up.

Izzy xx

Hugs to everyone

ask them about what they're most looking forward to about starting year 7, answer any questions they have, just generally chat. you'll probably find that there will be some really outgoing ones who are keen to chat and some really shy, nervous kids too. try and include the shy kids in conversations. i'm assuming there will be a few of you in your year who are the 'buddies'. so if you don't know what to say i'm sure they'll be someone else who can step in and start a conversation. basically, you just need to be approachable and friendly. don't worry about saying the wrong thing, i'm sure you'll do great!

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..

Hey there! I was a buddy one year, we did the same sort of thing. Just tell them a little about yourself, then maybe find out a bit about each of them, and what they are into and stuff. Something I recommend not doing, is talking about yourself a lot, because some of them would feel better talking about themselves. I'm sure you'll do fine, and have a great time!
