Question where can i work? - July 23rd 2010, 07:28 PM

hey im almost 17. i live in california and i work at jack in the box as a cashier. ive had the job for 2 months and it has become VERY clear that i am not good at customer service. i just dont like being around people and having to help them. i dont say the right things, i mess up alot, and i struggle with depression so i dont look "happy". i am going to quit this job because i suck at it and i know my boss will fire me soon if i dont quit. dose any body have any suggestions for a job where i dont have to deal with the general public? im great at physical labor and i enjoy it, but this job would be for a minor. any advice would be appreciated

Hmm.. where you don't have to deal with the general public..

I know that they have jobs where you go to banks and clean them. You do it after hours whenever no one is there. You'd have to be a trusted person. I'm not sure if it is for a 17 year old..

Baby sitting, Window Cleaning, Gardening, housekeeping
Being in housekeeping, you will spend about 51/2 of a 6 hour shift cleaning rooms and the other half hour cleaning the grounds i.e. lobby, hallways, etc.

You have to be thorough but efficient, but if you like cleaning seeing a room go from a tip to being as clean as a pin within 20mins will be rewarding.

There are not really any well paid cleaning jobs, thats just how it is.

If you want a cleaning job I would go to a hotel, the hours are good if you want to sleep in and party in the evenings. Hours are usually 9-3 Monday to Friday ans 10-4 on weekends.

It is not in a public place so there is less chance of people seeing you, than say cleaning at the mall.

I would advise you to visit local hotels and ask for the housekeeping manager and ask for a job. They are usually always looking as cleaning staff have a high turnover rate.

Cleaning staff is a good idea.

I'd recommend lawn care for next summer as they usually pay very high (like 12 to 20 dollars an hour for the basic labors), but it's a seasonal job.

Another option is delivery, generally when you show up with food people just want it. Customers may get grouchy about the quoted wait times though.

When you're 18, I'd apply as night-shift stocking as stores a lot more laxed about what the night shift does or act.

Housekeeping would be good. You don't have to do much interacting with others, just basic stuff, it's not a major part of your job. Plus, you can quickly get references. It's always needed. And depending on where you go, you should be able to move up, like at major hotels you can probably be promoted to management.

Or maybe, back of the house, at a resturant?
Babysitting, you could take jobs that'll be 1-on-1?

Good luck, let us know what you find.
