I have no motivation. - August 15th 2010, 04:19 AM

Not sure if this is the proper place for this topic, so feel free to move it if you see fit.

I'm currently working on the most soul-crushing freelance project in the entire world. It's not creative. It looks like crap (it looked like that before I touched it, but my client loves it and wants to keep the same visual and I couldn't convince her otherwise). It's proven to be stressful, irritating, and just outright depressing. I'm getting paid a lot of money to do it and I need that money to live (no seriously, it's going to pay my September rent).

However, I can't bring myself to work on it and just get it out of the way. I'm incredibly unmotivated and I can't sit down with it for more than 2 hours without giving up for the day.

I was AIMING for a Monday completion, but I'm not sure if that's possible anymore unless I bust out a longggg, anti-sleep work session in the next 24 hours.

This is a bit of a rant, I suppose. But I do have a question for you all: How do you keep yourself motivated when you're working on something you don't enjoy? Apparently the fate of my livelihood isn't doing it for me

I'll I'd rather do is browse TH and the rest of the web...

Caffeine, frequent SHORT breaks, and willpower. You can do it! Stop procrastinating!

The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows.
It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.
You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.
How much you can take, and keep moving forward.

I make myself small goals, and as everyone else said lots of breaks. If it's really mind-numbing every 30 mins I'll go and get a drink or a biscuit, and every 2 hours go for a 15 minute walk. I also like making lists of what I've got to do so that I can cross it off, and goals for when I'm going to do each thing because then I generally will want to finish by that time so I don't get behind.

Good luck! Think of the money!

Religion is like a penis.
It's fine to have one.
It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat.
