Question about your job? - August 28th 2010, 05:00 AM

So basically I am working on finding a new job.
I have applied to seventeen places. -_-
Im not exaggerating. The problem is about twelve of them were online applications.
So i'm assuming that might be it? Who really checks those? =P

My last job the people just called me back but I haven't had that kind of luck.

So I was wondering. For the job you're at. Did you do an application in person? Online? Did you call back to check in and ask if they looked over it? (Does that really work? I'd feel like im bothering them.)

Basically I just feel like im going at this all wrong. Thought maybe your experiences would help =P

I'll do whatever it takes to be the mistake you can't live without.

For all the jobs that I actually received I had called back to check on. They like that kind of initiative. I think that if you do an on-line application that can also give you an edge.

I literally walked round my entire town with a stack of cv's handing them out and asking for application forms. I got 4 interviews and one offer - funnily enough, from the one place I wasn't going to go into. I decided last second I would, talked to the staff, filled out the form there and then, and two weeks later was on my training day :O

One of the jobs I hold now, I filled out an application in person and was asked that day (after an impromptu interview) if I wanted the job. Four years later at the same place of employment, and I've been promoted -- life is cool. My other four jobs are dance jobs (I have lots of jobs ), so one of those was by audition, and the other three, I was asked to come teach at various studios that I subbed at! It's a cool industry!

I think you should call back and check up on your application at least once! Good luck!

I have done different applications, online and ones that I filled out manually. The online ones usually do get checked as well, as far as I am aware because I have heard back from a few. I think though that it's likely the online applications won't be checked as often for applicants so overall it is probably better to apply in person. If you apply in person it will also give them the chance to meet you and if you are friendly etc then hopefully they will remember that when inviting people for interviews.

I think you just have to bare in mind that it can take a while to find a job because of the current financial situation so just hang in there, keep applying for different things and hopefully you will find something

Good luck!

I applied for my job in person, I never called them to follow up, they ended up calling me. I personally. Don't like it when people call to follow up with the resume.
