This essay will be the death of me! - January 8th 2009, 04:49 PM

Ugh... I have this essay in history class on Voltaire. (and I love history and all, but I fail at the class...) It's worth about 20% of my grade and my grade is so terrible right now that if I don't succeed in this essay, I'm going to fail History 10. I have to rewrite it now because my first draft apparently missed the point completely, plus I was accused of plagiarizing it due to using "whilst" in my vocabulary and other things like that which you don't see in normal students writing.

Anyways.... I have no idea what to do now, I feel like I'm going to die every time I glance at another book on Voltaire. And now I have no idea what to write about, my topic sheet only said "Voltaire", but writing about how his views on humanity were reflected in his satire "Candide" was wrong... what else can I possibly do?

I'd rather die terrified

than live forever.
We will all die so gloriously, that having ever lived will seem like folly.

You were accused of plagiarizing? I don't quite see anything wrong with using advanced vocabulary. However, you must keep in mind that you need to cite your sources in your essay.

Anyways, keep moving on! You clearly understand that you need to finish the essay, regardless of what kind of grade you might receive. And have you asked your teacher for help? I am sure he/she will have no problem going over the essay with you and giving you some advice, etc.

Good luck!

Well, it's for history class, so why don't you write about his historical legacy... the effect of his writings on future intellectual movements and social reform? Don't focus on Candide so much, because it's "literary" and you want something history related?
