Why do i bother? - November 24th 2010, 07:48 PM

I am currently doing a placement for my teaching assistant course at a secondary school in the next town, i work 4 days a week - unpaid in two departments, and participate in an after school club.
The department i work the most in i love to bits, the teachers really do apprecitate the work i put in, but they just expect me to sit there with the children i am "given" and work through the sheets. Teaching assistants are given the most difficult and least academic along with ADHD ect. - so obviously i have my work cut out explaining it all to them and keeping them focused - because i am not the actual teacher i get fuck all respect and i tend to shout alot. when i shout the teacher thinks i am stepping out of place, but what else i am supposed to do when she is out the room and they are causing a riot? Then because they arn't focused because alot of them having got alot going off up in their head to even focus on it happens to be my fault because i am letting them "have a gossip shop".
But what really pisses me off is that i get treated like a slave - "would yu mind sharpening the pencil crayons" you know anything to make me look like Cinderella.

I am seriously wondering whether this is the job i want to do?
Because when i am in the other department i get to work with similar kids but i get more freedom into how i teach, if i shout and tell them off she doesn't care because they should be listening, and she doesn't inter-fear into how i teach at all. So i was talking to another T.A. and she was like well thats how the world works, and if a teacher doesn't want you to ave a role in the lesson then don't.

But i thought i was meant to?
