EXAM TIME IN COLLEGE! - December 7th 2010, 10:05 PM

I cant handle how little time there is to get all my exams studied for! I have three in a row and somehow time keeps slipping away. Would I be more motivated to study with a boy that I like (were almost dating) or would that just distract me more. How can I make studying more enjoyable and actually do it without taking adderall? I slept two hours last night because I stayed with him and now I just feel sick. I think im getting a cold...I just feel overwhelmed... ANY ADVICE?

Well, I'm in your boat right now. Exams are absolutely killing me. I have two big exams in a week and then two more after that. I've been at my desk for about 8 hours today. Yesterday, I was studying for about 14 hours.

Will you get more studying done if you study with the guy you like? Absolutely not. I'm kind of, sort of dating someone too and I am not seeing him until after my exams. Yeah, it'll be difficult but like you said, time is slipping away. Time really flies as a university student. I don't know how you feel but ever since midterms for us (mid-October), I don't know where the time has gone.

Keep at it. Take regular (small) breaks whenever you can. Try to vary up your studying. I.e., if you have psychology, philosophy, statistics, and math to study for, alternate between them. I've been studying ~2 subjects per day, according to 1) how much the exam is worth 2) which exams I have first. I have a psychology exam (20% of grade) and a statistics exam (60% of grade) in a week. I've been studying those two right now, with an emphasis on statistics since it's worth much more than psychology. Make sense?

PM me if you have any other questions.

Well you just have to know how YOU study best. Although, odds are you will get less done with a boy you like. Studying in groups is not a bad idea, though if it helps some people it does some it does not.

Also, do not study too much like hours on end you forget what you learn it is best to study for a MAX of 90 minutes at a time less than that if you can. Studying for 20- 30 minutes and then taking a short break for 2-4 hours a day is better than trying to do it all at once.

Don't study with the boy you like, because my roommate does that all the time with the guy she's "sort of dating" and she hardly ever gets anything accomplished, and if she does it's not until like 3 AM. Your best bet is to study on your own, or with a small study group, preferably with people who you are not particularly close with, or people who will cause you to become distracted. I know when I'm studying with friends I am much more likely to get distracted. It's so easy.

Our finals were a couple weeks ago. My college's schedule is rather strange. We have finals in November, then we start a new term for three weeks, and then we get two weeks off.

If you're going to study with the boy, then you might as well go on a date with him or whatever else because you're not going to get much effective studying done. If you want to study well, tell him you have exams (assuming he does too) so until exams are done, you two don't go out. Also, study for only an hour or so then take a break. If you're studying when you're dead tired, it's not going to sink in that well, so might as well just pack it up and sleep instead of study at that point.

Think which courses need most studying based on their weight and how good you are in those courses. I have 4 exams left (integrative animal physiology, a criminology course, developmental neurobiology & neuropsychology, and adult abnormal psychology) coming up, 3 of them are back-to-back. I'm studying for the 3rd one (developmental neuro) because I slacked off a bit in that course but the exam is non-cumulative so it's not too bad. Unfortunately, for tests in that course, the averages haven't manage to pass 65%. The others I've either studied for already or have very high marks in, I'm not that worried over.

I study usually by myself and sometimes then hop in study groups that I was part of throughout the course. Getting past exams have been a bit harder but when I can get them, I use them.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

I'm with you, I hate finals week with a passion and I'm right in the middle of it. If studying with a boy is going to distract you I wouldn't do it, unless he makes it bearable for you. Try studying a little at a time and take breaks if you have time for them and if you get tired, sleep. Pulling an all-nighter won't help if you're too tired to remember anything you're reading it will just make you more tired in the morning and make everything worse. Find ways that help you study, different things work for different people. Good Luck it will be over soon
